I almost fainted! What a news…

Just think how testing it sometimes was to be true to non-slave chocolate when there wasn’t a Co-op or Oxfam around. And now every gas station and coin slot machine will have an FT option.

More to the point, can you imagine how Ghana will benefit…

And how other choc companies will have an even starker choice whether to be proud Confederate slavers, or join the FT label. My prediction: third way… A bit like happened with coffee, they’ll get their own competing ‘fair’ designation, some label that still offers a touch of conscience but is a bit more big-business friendly behind the scenes…

Personally though I’ll still buy Divine, Co-op or Maya Gold. I like that CDM offers something new to the mainstream but I still want to support the ones who did the hard work (and that still taste so so good..!)

Hi Mark,

I think you’re right about the Third Way.

I definitely see what you mean about supporting the people who have fought the battle for fairly traded goods, but their dream all along has been to see a balanced market, where the grower isn’t abused in favour of the middle man making a disproportionate profit.

If we back Cadbury and their move towards Fairtrade, we will put pressure on the other big players.

Isn’t it sad that we live in a world where, as consumers, you have to appeal to fiscal benefits more than social issues when relating to those who run businesses. We need more modern day Robert Owens!
